good evening my name is Gretchen Harrison Walker and I am the prince of of the historic boys and girls high school it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Boys & Girls High School family as a principal and the parents I know that selecting a high school is not a decision that you have made likely I want to assure I knew that you have made the right choice a Boys & Girls High School Ask Alice stay true to our motto of keeping it 100 in their attendance academic than their progress who was graduation are amazing faculty also worked diligently to ensure that our students are supported in a nurturing and safe learning environment this has led to an increased number of students graduating from Boys & Girls High School College and career-ready our students I have excelled in advanced placement courses college now classes and Career and Technical education courses this evening you will have an opportunity to hear from our administrator as well as your 9th grade guidance counselor ninth grade success coach you will also hear from our teachers and support staff including a parent coordinator affectionately known as MaMa Jean's by the end of this presentation trust me you will know why earned that name you will also have an opportunity to hear from a community-based organization Good Shepherd Services who will share pertinent information about how they support our Scholars as well as their extracurricular activities we will also provide you with a virtual tour of our campus where you will be spending the next four years of your life team has worked hard to ensure that you are able to see everything that the high has to offer by the time this program is over you will know why boys and girls high school is indeed the pride and joy Bed-Stuy I look forward to seeing you in September reading famous jazz singer a k a mama G the very proud parent coordinator Care at Boys and Girls High School wait a minute I am not there but I am here with all of you I am so hoping that you all feel welcome I hope that you can feel the love and the support and you will be able to imagine the educational experience that you will receive because that's what we had for waiting for you at our home I want you to come on and go into every road just enjoy yourself imagine that you're already here I can guarantee you this one that when we meet you will be met equally with love care and support by competent and caring staff members parents that is our pledge to you I cannot wait to meet all of you I have stone plans for you and as always it would be my privilege to serve you I hope that you are also welcome to our campus Welcome to our family welcome welcome welcome sending you a great big virtual hug and a little Mama G hello my name is mrs. Jimenez and I'll be your host for today I'll our charge is to challenge motivate and support you as you navigate through your academic Social Development boys and girls high schools community school so we support the student the family if it's just a holistic approach I'm sure you're aware of all of the academic Pro boys and girls have to let me Review AP courses courses individual plans for students who have specific needs you have partnership with the steam programming team program we have college now program a number of CTE programs and a variety of electives and so with the CPE program we have electrical installation architectural design and programming ibar electives we have music production we have modern bands we have Theater Arts and we have Fine Arts so what that means is that our Scholars get to graduate with a C certified New York State diploma in addition to CT endorsements and credentials and transferable college credits absolutely amazing so as students are managing their academic life they have the opportunity to take part in a prestigious PSAL Athletic program could buy two dedicated Direct hours for athletics and their team to making sure that I scholar-athletes are outstanding on and off the court we have Partnerships with Good Shepherd services will provide after school program games that have homework help that have characters without mint activities Social Services service learning projects and community service projects as well in addition to that we have other Partnerships that provide internet jobs scholarship opportunities of plethora of things did you know the boys and girls has a state-of-the-art medical center where you can see your doctor or a dentist and just have a host of address so you don't miss school but you still take care of your necessities absolutely amazing you know what come with me I'd like to show you everything that I've been talking about so welcome to boys and girls and I'll meet you here after your tour and we'll check out a little bit enjoy I messed up tonight Sonic games I won't give up no I won't give clear clue program provides enhanced. for you to explore career Pathways and develop work Readiness skills through steambase curricula Collaborative Learning projects and field trips our program is meant to teenagers how to work in a Woodshop in a digital fabrication shop in to give them all sorts of fabrication skills and after that wired correctly but I don't really feel like getting household plant out to work with electricity by making parallel circuit panels and I also learned how to use a different machines in the shop we use a Cooperative learning style hair with two disappear together on projects and that's the style that we feel allows students to think proactively learn how to work well with others we facilitate but we have to leave in designing and building 2 and problem-solving students are the student right now we're finishing a project that we had there last week your building faces and a few weeks ago we had learned how to use the soldering iron to make a model and I'll be finished my living space and we have to do the wiring in a bag so we could we press nose copper iron a light bulb installation of the LED lights for face a lot of fun stuff electrical I got frustrated a lot but I had help. They can eat wiring and we also learn how to use when I wash it and that is used for computer programming working with the saw a jumper cable structure of a motherboard United today and also we learn how to code tell me that in the cold yeah I really think that you can rely asking for pictures of food until your dying anytime that you need help with we're constantly learning from one another at building things and so they creating anywhere message Wrangler you looking for something to do if your bored if you want to learn new things have a new experience buying something that you do a future time just to specials around me hi my name is Sandra Cummings on the Community School director here at boys and girls high school and I work with Good Shepherd services I work for good service services at Boys & Girls High School I'm the program director for the after-school program here cuz Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. hello how you doing my name is I work at Boys and Girls High School for Good Shepherd services Moto G I am a Youth Development specialist and also and after school coordinator every year we have like a annual kickoff for real students who signed up for after-school program we meet in front of like a rally and we give them an idea of our goals are values but we stand for what we are committed to doing for them and how they can meet us halfway on what is expected of them throughout the course of the Year while you're in after school rules and regulations and all are slain pretty much in detail we go back and forth with a little bit of ice breakers some games ask questions if there's some clarification and we pretty much as give them a breakdown of what they look like moving forward when the Stillness comes why do they do they receive a snack or or hot meal then we are off academic tutoring hi my name is Trey Moses I worked with a Shepherd Services of boys and girls high school one of the things that I do mainly is English tutoring but I also helped most of the students with their social studies some of their Spanish little bit of science I don't need help distribute the space I helped arrange with lining up in the cafeteria bringing him upstairs to the various rooms for homework help in tutoring game room or activities I am Iris and I work at Good Shepherd services at Boys & Girls High School as the film and video production instructor what we do here is we go around the school and we shoot the different events that are going on we edit and we presented to the student body we have a virtual TV studio in which we'd learn television production behind the scene production and photography as well we also offer Visual Arts major learn how to make cartoons and different Visual Arts specialist with Good Shepherd services at Boys & Girls High School I think the students After Effects Photoshop and other forms of artwork we also offer the studio where I producer shows and teachers and students how to produce beat how to edit samples and also had a record and pretty much make attract running back and then sweet choreograph several dances that we put on performance has for the school and any events that we happen to come across we also offer the kids 6X and when they receive information on the proper way to go about space X we also have weekly huddle which is where we have is a relative on conversations about what's going on in the world and keeping up with current events we had a game room and the game room is open to the student so they can play any games they like from board games to video games PS4 the Wii we have Monopoly trouble show me different games and car games who know that the students can engage in on their own time when it's activity time we also try to take the students out once a month to try to explore something different different things we take them to the Berkeley go to watch the Mets game hockey games between two museums skating rings movies I think after school is important for the kids not only to receive do like the academic tutoring also to like it's like a family so the kids get to get to a mingle with people they normally don't get a chance to mingle with Dae Dae they receive support they have somebody to talk to if it keeps them off the streets they help improve academics on throughout the school year we help stay on top of them where I can mentor to them as well and get your team for organizing night don't know how it sounds when you try to reach out to the families to get them to come inside the school to the mingle with us as a program and as a community so we host Thanksgiving dinners behold holiday parties mijos black hair month event we host showcases 22 to showcase the talent I can't tell you guys how much I love and enjoy my job and working with my kids are calling my kids because they are no longer students to me We Are Family on this program is very important we offer a lot of activities and opportunities for students to better themselves and that's cool. Mayonnaise is not about building you know the perfect student is more like building the perfect human or building a perfect family and actually wrote about he had Good Shepherd services hello incoming freshmen this is your boy Christopher Lloyd and I'm the youth specialist in after-school coordinator for the Good Shepherd Services hair at Boys & Girls High School so my role is to Mentor support and engage you guys in a mini activities that boys and girls has to offer also along with my team you will expect us to send coat what is a success coach you may as well it is who is there to help support you God for your academic success they are there to help you navigate your way through any social or academic support you may need and also check this out we also have an after-school program here where we offer many many activities such as dance photo video games of Studio music we have it all okay we also take trips we all college initiative at school program so I'll goal is to get you guys out of high school and college and a job or career do what you like to do but like I said we got it off for you guys so freshman I hope you're ready I hope you're ready to have some fun I hope you're ready to learn welcome to Boys & Girls High School what's the high class of 2024 in the 9th grade and I'm here to welcome you to the hi I'm looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and the next school year I want you to remember one thing always keep it 100 see you guys soon weather hey what did you think amazing right aren't you glad you made the choice to become a kangaroo I'm part of the legacy of boys and girls high school the pride and joy if that's.
