2026–27 New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Calendar

The 2026–27 school year calendar is here! The first day of school next year is Thursday, September 10.   View key dates and download printable files . Please also note:

On days when school buildings are closed due to severe weather or other emergency conditions, NYCPS may be in session remotely. Per past practice, when NYCPS holidays fall on a weekend, schools will not close on a weekday.

In the 2026-27 school year, the following holidays fall on weekends and will not be observed as school holidays:

  • Rosh Hashanah (Saturday–Sunday, September 12–13, 2026)
  • Diwali (Sunday, November 8, 2026)
  • Lunar New Year (Sunday, February 7, 2027)

Learn more about how the calendar is created .

Summer Rising Offers

If you applied to Summer Rising and received an offer, you must accept it by Tuesday, May 5 to secure your child’s seat! Families will not be automatically enrolled. Log in to MySchools.nyc to accept or decline your child's offer.

Key Admissions Dates

Gifted and Talented (G&T) Grade 1–4 Application Closes May 8

Submit your G&T Grade 1–4 application for fall 2026 by Friday, May 8 . G&T programs offer accelerated instruction to eligible students in grades 1–4. Families of eligible students should have received an email and/or mailed letter inviting them to apply for G&T. Learn about G&T eligibility requirements and admissions.

3-K and Pre-K Results

If you applied to 3-K or Pre-K for fall 2026 by the February 28 deadline, you will receive your child's results on Tuesday, May 12 (Pre-K) or Tuesday, May 19 (3-K). Log in to your MySchools.nyc account to accept an offer and view any waitlists your child may be on. Learn how offers are made at schools.nyc.gov/3K and schools.nyc.gov/PreK .

Teacher Appreciation Week

Show your appreciation to your child's teachers throughout the week of May 4–8, 2026 ! Teachers help our children feel safe, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential inside and outside of the classroom.

From May 4–8, take a moment to thank the teachers making a difference in your child’s life. Sign in as a guest at doeallstars.schools.nyc and enter the name of a cherished NYCPS educator to send your message of support. It's that easy to brighten a teacher's day! We also encourage students and families to celebrate our City's teachers on social media using the hashtag #ThankATeacherNYC.

Climate Action Day

The last NYCPS Climate Action Day of the 2025–26 school year is on Wednesday, May 20 ! Each Climate Action Day, NYC public school communities engage in activities highlighting climate education and sustainability practices. The theme for May is "Water," which encourages schools to focus on water ecosystems, conservation, and adapting to increased rainfall and storms in our city. Visit schools.nyc.gov/ClimateAction to learn more.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Get ready for this year's final round of parent-teacher conferences (PTCs)! In general, parent-teacher conferences will be conducted remotely, but some schools may have in-person conferences. Translation and interpretation services are also available—please let your child's school know if you need these services or require an in-person conference. Please visit schools.nyc.gov/PTC to learn more.

  • Wednesday, May 6 : Evening PTCs for middle schools and D75 schools
  • Thursday, May 7 : Evening PTCs for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers
  • Wednesday, May 20 : Evening PTCs for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools

Please check with your child’s teachers to confirm the dates for their school and schedule your conference.
